The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), which takes place every year in the last week of November, promotes responsible consumption in all European countries simultaneously. The Department of Fashion Design of the Faculty of Arts and Creative Technologies contributes to this initiative by organising exhibitions and displays, workshops, excursions, and the International Students’ Society for Science and Arts ECOFORUM’2024, which has become a tradition.
On 27 November, students presented 16 presentations on various sustainable fashion topics. Dr. Jolanta Vazalinskienė, Associate Professor at the Department of Fashion Design, reviewed her concept of sustainable fashion in her latest fashion design book “Unfashionable Fashion”. We also welcomed guests from Rezekne Academy of Technology in Latvia. Student Evika Muizniece presented a paper “Sustainable Fashion: Practice, Costs, Challenges”. Presentations were given by students of Fashion Design, Image Design, Fashion Technology and Business study programmes, bringing up combinations, ideas and solutions for sustainability in contemporary fashion. It is delightful that the students of the Faculty of Agri-Technology, Linas Narmontas and Irena Fiterson, with their presentation “How Can Sustainability and New Product Development be Combined?”, joined the international forum and contributed to the development of conscious consumption.
We are delighted with the students’ initiative, responsible attitude and original ideas for a more sustainable future.
