On 4th to 10 th September a Fashion Design study programme student Paula Radavičiūtė, together with her colleague Vaiva, represented Lithuania in the “Euroskills Gdansk 2023” international competition held in Poland in the Fashion Design and Technology category.
The main task was to construct and sew a jacket from scratch from the given materials in two days. However, in between, while sewing the jacket, the girls had to complete additional tasks – to construct a skirt and make full pleats according to the given technical drawing, to artistically draw 4 products from the front and back according to the given theme, and to draw a technical drawing of the given outerwear with seam knots using Illustrator.
On the third day, they had to present and “sell” the main product to the commission. In short, during this competition, Paula and Vaiva had to be designers, seamstresses, constructors and marketing specialists. The whole week of the competition was very stressful and required special concentration, endurance and strength not to give up, to overcome all difficulties and surprises, to quickly make appropriate decisions.
Paula says that she would recommend all students to take part in these types of competitions, because they are educational in every way. After the competition, the student feels stronger and able to overcome all difficulties. In addition, thanks to this competition, she feels even more respect for all the professions that had to be represented during that week.
Having acquired the tailoring specialty at the Klaipėda Technology Training Centre, and having graduated from the construction-cutting studies at the Kaunas School of Services and Business in 2022, Paula is currently a second year student of the Fashion Design study programme.
