Daniel’s Irizarry actor stage plastic mastery courses straight from New York

On October 19-23, throughout the week, students of all courses of the Musical Theatre study programme of the Faculty of Arts and Creative Technologies had the opportunity to participate in a remotely organized actor of the stage plastic mastery “The plasticity of musical theatre actor: movement, acting, singing” led by famous stage movement specialist, choreographer, actor and director Daniel Irizarry from New York.

Daniel Irizarry is a renowned artist who combines the American culture and the wandering spirit. He was born in Puerto Rico, where he received his first degree, then continued his studies in the United States. This artist has created a number of roles in theatre and cinema, has also directed several performances, and is currently working successfully as an educator: for the past couple of years he has been successfully teaching at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey.

The main topics of these courses are “A Man Facing Imprisonment, Isolation and Restrictions” and “The Physical and Vocal Sequence of a Man Facing Embryonic Phobia and Embryonic Nostalgia”. The students tried to unleash and strengthen their abilities, trust each other and were left fascinated by this extremely talented and charismatic artist. They enthusiastically gained new experience, developed their acting elements.

Due to the global situation caused by the coronavirus, the educator was unable to come to teach live, so he conducted these masterclasses remotely. Although this year all teachers and students of Vilnius University of Applied Sciences had to face the process of distance learning, for the first time they had to organize such an ambitious project.

The faculty staff coped well with the challenges and enjoyed the result, and the wide range of Daniel Irizarry’s stage activities on the world’s most famous stages and the director’s experience stimulated the creativity of Musical Theatre study programme students.
